Kat Von D Makeup Review

I have lusted after Kat Von D Beauty for a long time. Unfortunately it was hard to get hold of in the UK, until it finally launched in Debenhams in September 2016. I was lucky enough to get colour matched with the Kat Von D ‘Lock-It’ Foundation at the Blogosphere Valentine’s Tea Party and was gifted a full sized foundation and Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad in Plum.

Kat Von D Beauty

“Kat Von D Beauty is a creative outlet for everyone, from beginners to pros… if you want to know who Kat Von D Beauty is, all you gotta do is look in the mirror. We are bold, unapologetic, outspoken and different in our own way. We are artists, poets and lovers. We are the outsiders and the insiders. We are Kat Von D Beauty.”

Packaging

This packaging is shaped like a coffin, but still manages to look chic (yes – you can make a coffin look chic!) The design is simple, with the matte black case contrasting with gloss black and gold embossed lettering. The eyeshadow palette is sturdy and snaps shut so it is perfect for keeping in a handbag as it won’t fall open. It also comes with a mirror inside which is handy for touch-ups.

The foundation is also equally impressive, it has recently had a makeover and features an airless chamber to prevent contamination. The foundation is dispensed with the built in pump, which I was told gives the perfect amount needed for each application. The seal over the pump was designed by Kat Von D to look like fresh hot wax, stamped with her logo.

The Product

The plum eyeshadow palette contains perfect shades for my green eyes, it is also available in sage, rust and smoke. I primed my eyelids before application and I found the shadows applied easily and blended well. They feel buttery and are extremely pigmented. I like a bold look, but if you want something more subtle you really only need to use the smallest amount. I didn’t experience any creasing with the shadows and they lasted all day. My eyes are extremely sensitive, so I cant usually wear eyeshadow for long as it irritates them and causes them to water. They also feel sore the next day, however I have not experienced any irritation at all with these.

The pump dispensed the right amount needed of the foundation and I rubbed it in to my skin. I could feel it setting quickly as I applied it which immediately gave me high hopes of it staying put all day. The foundation lived up to the claims of being transfer proof and it also worked well at keeping shine at bay (I have an oily T-zone). It felt comfortable to wear and not heavy or cakey at all.

Final Thoughts

The products were definitely worth the hype. They feel high quality and a lot of thought has been put in to designing and creating them. I will definitely be ordering more from the range (I have my eye on the ‘studded kiss lipstick’).

What are your favourite Kat Von D beauty products?
