I’m off to New York in a couple of weeks and am in dire need of some warm clothes. Luckily this vintage fur coat (styled on Lily) that I was kindly given by a family friend is perfect for the bitter Winter months. I would never go out and buy a real fur coat, in this day and age its not exactly necessary when there are so many great quality faux furs available but as this is a vintage one it would be a shame not to show it a little love. I’d always been quite hesitant about wearing fur as I was a little concerned I’d end up looking like a giant furby, however it is so warm that I have now been converted.
If you’re a little worried about pulling off fur this Winter then read on for my tips below.
My top tips for wearing Fur
If a fur coat is a bit OTT for you then why not add a faux fur collar or cuffs to your favourite outerwear instead?
A fur scarf can help to finish off your outfit, there are so many different varieties available. Pick a classic style to add a touch of glamour or go for a colourful version to create an eclectic look.
Whilst a fur coat may keep you very warm the rain is not your friend. Best to leave the fur at home if you are expecting a downpour or make sure you have your brolly with you too.
Pick the items you feel comfortable in, if a full on shaggy coat isn’t your style opt for something a little more understated such as shearling instead.
To get the most wear out of your items pick a good quality faux in a neutral shade; camel, beige or grey. These colours never seem to go our of fashion and will stand the test of time.
A faux fur coat can look great teamed with your favourite pair of skinny jeans and ankle boots or try them with some flared jeans for a cool 70’s vibe.
Wear copper eyeshadows and add a deep plum or berry shade on your lips to finish off the perfect fall look.
